April 2024 Velasquez Family Update

Dear Pastor, Congregation and Friends,

Our God answers prayers! After several difficult months in the ministry, we are seeing the slow rebuilding and strengthening of the Biblical Baptist Church of Colmenar Viejo. In March we started our new members course for those who were interested in becoming members and we had 13 sign up! That is very exciting, because we could very soon have a record number of adult members in our church. Having more members is very important for us, because in order to implement our goals for evangelism and discipling, we need informed and committed members, which is what we strive for in our six-week new members course. One of the greatest parts of the new members course is that there are always candidates for baptism amongst the participants. These are usually new converts or believers that weren’t biblically baptised. This time around, Lord willing, we will be baptising two. We can’t wait to share their testimonies in our next letter.

In March we were also blessed to have our pastor, Matt Anders, and his family visit us for almost two weeks. We had such a wonderful time of fellowship with them and learned so much from them, by observing their love for the Lord and for each other. Matt and his wife Sheila are a tremendous example of raising children for the glory of God. Having them in our home was a masterclass in godly parenting. But not only was our family blessed in that area during their stay with us, so was the church. When I found out that pastor Matt was going to be visiting us, I asked him if he would be willing to teach a mini-conference on the subject of parenting, and he was more than willing to do that. The mini-conference was the 5th-6th of April, and he taught four sessions, with a Q&A time at the end. We invited two other churches in addition to ours and we had a total of 90 in attendance. It was a huge help to all who attended!

While I’m on the subject of parenting, I ask that you would please pray for my oldest son, Ian, who will be graduating from high school in June. He plans to study in a university here in Madrid. Pray that he would continue growing in his walk with God and that he would have clarity as to his future. Thankfully, he will be living with us during his studies and he will continue being an active member of the church. Favi and I want to help and encourage him as best as we can during this exciting and challenging time of his life. Hayden, our fourteen-year-old daughter, is one of the candidates for membership. She has made a very clear profession of faith and will be baptised shortly. Alexandra, our twelve-year-old daughter, and Jackson, our youngest son, will be graduating this year as well. We continue working with them to teach them the gospel and ground them in the Word of God. We love all four of our children so much and we pray that God would use them mightily for His glory. Thank you so much for your prayers and faithful support. We are humbled when we see God’s faithfulness in providing for our needs through all of you. May God bless you!
