October 2013 Velasquez Family Update

Dear Pastor, Congregation and Friends,

In one month it will be three years since we arrived in Spain as missionaries. I still remember the way I felt in those last months of deputation leading up to our departure. I felt a mixture of excitement and fear as I knew that I would soon be starting the most amazing journey of my life. Around the time that we arrived Paco was saved. He came as a result of the gospel DVD project. He had been attending the newly started church with his family and my father had been discipling him. Last Sunday he was teaching the adult Sunday school class, clearly expounding from the Scriptures and answering Bible questions. Words cannot describe what it means to me to hear the Bible taught in that distinct Spanish accent.  Paco is one of the most godly men that I know. He has already read the Bible through several times and is an ardent student of the Word. I believe with all of my heart that what Spain needs is faithful men. Men like Paco.

Last year I was able to lead Carlos Temprano to Christ and I have been teaching him the Bible ever since. He is a faithful believer. He is giving the announcements at church and teaching the offering devotional. Eduardo Sedoski is helping me in the Colmenar church. We study the Bible together every week and he is learning how to teach. Every week he gives a five minute message at the Colmenar church. He has been faithful to Christ since he was saved three years ago.

In September I had the opportunity to baptize Jefferson Ordinola. You may remember that I asked you to pray for him. I had been teaching him the Bible for many months and he hadn’t gotten saved yet. Just this year in May he came up to me and informed me that he had placed his faith and trust in Jesus Christ for his salvation. My experience with Jefferson has taught me a lot. I have learned that ministry takes time and that discipleship is a long process that begins as we teach unbelievers the gospel and continues until those that believe reproduce themselves in the lives of others and replicate the process. Jefferson is currently helping in both churches playing the guitar and running the media.

This month we had a special evangelistic campaign in the church and we distributed twenty thousand invitations in Parla and ten thousand in Colmenar. We didn’t have a single visitor as a result of the campaign. However, last Sunday the members of the Parla church brought seven visitors. God has used this campaign to work in the hearts of the believers in Parla and Colmenar. Thank you once again for your prayers and faithful support. God Bless.
